ICD-10:
Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed ICD-10 regulation to enhance existing ICD-9 coding system. This requires substantial IT investment for organizations that are willing to follow ICD-10 and ICD-10-PCS (Procedure Coding System). To better assist our clients DStrategy is closely following these new regulation.
EHR/EMR:
ARRA, HITECH and CMS: In American Recovery and Reinvestment Act(ARRA), more widely known as the Stimulus Bill of 2008, one of the provisions of this legislation was the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.
HITECH authorizes the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to issue annual payments to eligible providers who demonstrate meaningful Use of a certified electronic health record(EHR).
The healthcare industry is adopting EHR/EMR to reduce healthcare costs, improve quality of care and healthcare coordination.
EMR and EHR: According to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), an EMR is a component of an electronic health record that is owned by the healthcare provider. The EMR is a set of applications and workflow tools that digitizes the creation, collection, storage and management of patient information within the confines of a single organization.
An EMR system may touch clinical data repositories, lab applications and patient information management systems, among others — but all within the reach of a single organization. EHRs, on the other hand, comprise as far as possible, a complete and unified view of all the patient’s clinical assessments and care records drawn from across a wide region corresponding to all the providers who are seeing the patient — the totality of his/her personal data, state of health and delivered care. HIMSS defines EHR as a longitudinal electronic record of patient health information produced by encounters in one or more care settings.
